Soon after, it was drowned out by beautiful Christmas Carols when the Rotary Carols By Candlelight portion of the night’s activities got under way.
Local singers and musicians led the community in the joyful sing-along.
People flocked in large number to enjoy the festivities.
Children were particularly well catered for with a range of games, sideshow attractions, face painting and even a petting zoo to keep them busy.
Add to that the snow cone stand, and other great food stands, and you had a recipe for a successful family night out.
Santa made an appearance, taking up residence in the famous Waring Garden rotunda.
Armed with picnic chairs and picnic rugs, community members and visitors alike staked out the best spot from which to enjoy the carols, and the rousing fireworks display which concluded the celebrations.
