Tongala Town Square has become much more than another stop on the Street Art path for which the town has become increasingly more popular in Victorian tourism ranks.

While murals are scattered on the historic buildings of the town, the town square is quickly becoming the beating heart of a community which is developing a strong calendar of events
The Lions club inspired town square development is consistently home base for major events and last weekend it hosted a Come and Say Goodaye Day.
An early morning walkers’ breakfast was accompanied by ham and cheese toasties, while storytelling and painting workshops saw a strong response from the younger members of the community.
Vintage cars, model boats and Chooka’s Creations were also on the agenda of goodaye day activities, but the event was not restricted to art.
A dog obedience component was hosted by Kyabram Veterinary Clinic nurse, and Tongala resident, Kristy Wilkinson.
She and her dogs, a Labrador crossed with a koolie named Lexie and Ernie the Jack Russell, were on hand to provide examples of dog obedience.
Kristy teaches puppy pre-school at the Ky vet clinic and also travels around the schools and kindergartens of the region teaching a responsible pet program.
“The focus is on teaching kids how to be safe around dogs, with the aim of stopping dog bites and attacks,” she said.
Kristy is based at the Ky vet clinic a couple of days a week and operates the puppy pre-school for six to 16-week-old puppies from 6pm until 7pm.
She has worked as a vet nurse and dog groomer for more than 20 years.
