He’s a Kialla Lakes resident and has lived in Greater Shepparton his whole life.
He moved to the town after encouragement from friends.
“One of my mates used to live here, and, so that’s why I came here,” Mr Dhillon said.
“I’ve just been in love with the community and with the culture of this town with the diverse community, it’s great.
“I have never, ever thought of leaving Shepparton.”
He said he wanted to run for council as he felt he understood the community’s needs.
“I’m a local resident, and I know the needs of the area because I live in the heart of Kialla,” he said.
“I’ve been running a local business for over 12 years, so I meet face-to-face many people every day.
“I’m just trying to do whatever I can to get back to community, it’s time for me to give back.”
He said he was already advocating for one of his top community priorities.
“At the moment I’m working on public transport service,” Mr Dhillon said.
“I lodged ... a petition in (the) Legislative Assembly, and it’s been successfully accepted.
“The last public bus service review was done in 2008.
“Even if I’m not elected, I am doing work for the community.”
His other priorities include waste management, lake cleanliness, recreation and rates.
Mr Dhillon said the local people were what he loved about his town the most.
“When I came here, I was a very young man, and I struggled,” he said.
“I worked really hard, built up my businesses, and the people are so supportive.
“It’s a diverse town, and if I start counting the things I love about the town, I won’t be able to stop.”
