Half a dozen community groups are the latest organisations to benefit from Moira Shire Council’s Community Strengthening Grants program.
At its general meeting on Wednesday, November 27, the council administration passed a motion to endorse the $44,291.50 in grant funding for approval.
Council chair administrator Graeme Emonson said the Community Strengthening Grants were a vital component of the council’s support for local organisations.
“They provide opportunities to launch initiatives and projects that might otherwise remain out of reach,” Dr Emonson said.
“We are excited to support a wide range of projects across the shire and look forward to seeing these initiatives come to fruition over the next year.”
Community Strengthening Grants recipients
Cobram Barooga Canoe Club will use the funding to purchase equipment for water safety programs including Bush Nippers.
Royal Flying Doctor Service Australia is set to allocate its share of funding to volunteer training and service promotion.
Yarrawonga Mulwala Basketball League will invest in first aid kits and provide training for its coaches, team managers and referees.
Yarrawonga and District Cemetery Trust will use its funding to enhance the Woods Rd entrance and create a sand and soil storage area for ongoing use.
Nathalia and District Men’s Shed will install two heating and cooling split system units to improve comfort in its workspace.
Numurkah and District Historical Society will commemorate Numurkah’s 150th anniversary by installing four large noticeboards at the museum to showcase the township’s history.
