As part of the Riv’s year in review, Emily Donohoe spoke to Committee for Echuca Moama board chair Catherine Lees about the highs and lows of the past 12 months, and looked ahead to next year.

The year began with the departure of chief executive Chris Janson, with Dr Lees stepping into the role of chair and Scott Spedding as deputy chair.
Dr Lees believes these leadership changes allowed for reflection and planning.
“This has seen us work towards a more streamlined and effective organisation, ensuring that we have the right structures and strategies in place to support our purpose and a clear focus on addressing the issues that matter most to our community,” she said.
Driven by member needs, the group facilitated its Business Breakfasts and collaborative projects, along with the formation of two working groups.
This includes Workforce Education and Training Working Group, created to address workforce challenges, and opportunities for training and local employment pathways
In response to the closure of and redistribution of assets from Echuca Moama Tourism, C4EM also formed the Tourism Working Group so that the region could continue to be promoted to tourists.
Further, C4EM has welcomed Next Gen Connect, a place for upcoming leaders to network and meet, to the committee.

Dr Lees believes 2024 was a key period of financial recovery and stability for C4EM, thanks to budgeting, support and strategy.
“We have successfully strengthened our financial foundation,” she said.
“This recovery not only allows us to continue our current projects but also positions us to take on new initiatives with confidence and resilience in 2025.
“Our renewed financial health is a testament to the dedication and prudent management of both our board and our supporters.”
Dr Lees credited the hard work of the volunteer board members and directors, including former chair Dean Oberin for his guidance and direction.
She also thanked Mr Spedding and treasurer Tim Ford for their contributions to the success of the committee.
“I extend a heartfelt thanks to each of our board members for their steadfast dedication, unwavering support and additional hours of work that was so generously given to keep our organisation strong,” Dr Lees said.
Looking ahead, Ms Lees is ready for a year of new partnerships, initiatives and advocacy.
This includes the addition of new directors to the board, and a focus on growing connections in the agricultural and manufacturing industries.
C4EM will also continue to support its tourism and workforce working groups, as well as advocating for its members and wider community alongside Campaspe Shire Council and Murray River Council.
“With the momentum we have built, C4EM is well positioned to drive positive change in the coming year,” Dr Lees said.
