Hiccup for Santa
Lancaster Football Netball Club’s own generous Santa Clause had a bit of a hiccup in his delayed Christmas visit to the club last week.
The midnight traveller had arranged a stopover on arrival to catch a quick nap and all was in readiness for his arrival.
The trouble was though that although the good Samaritan had everything in order where he intended to rest up, including the ‘planting’ of the house key which would allow him access to his premises, it never turned out that way.
He found the key okay but it only opened the wooden front door. But before he could do that he had to open the wire door which had been snipped closed and for which there was no key.
So Santa had to sit out for a couple of hours in his car — until daylight — on the street where his protruding feet from a window had some early morning walkers a bit baffled.
Santa said he would have a new plan of attack if the same scenario eventuates in the future, but he has definitely ruled out a chimney arrival as he doubts whether he could get onto a house roof these days.
But his visit ended up having a happy ending and the Lancaster Wombats were more than pleased with the Christmas present he delivered them.
August 15 deadline at Elmore
Rochester residents displaced by the floods who have taken temporary accommodation at the Elmore Events Centre site have been requested to move out before August 15.
Some 140 residents are currently living in caravans or removable units at the site.
But Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews who recently visited the site has promised accommodation options for those whose dwellings can’t be lived in by the deadline.
Ky’s voice of cricket
Kyabram now boasts the Goulburn Valley ‘Voice of Cricket.’
No Richie Benaud hasn’t risen from the grave, but the irrepressible Tim Nelson has stepped up to the mike to keep everyone who attends the Goulburn Valley Bush Bash Cricket League games informed of what is going on.
Tim has always revelled in a challenge and he is making a decent fist of this diversion as well.
He will be in action on home turf on Sunday week when Kyabram hosts the final preliminary round of the series.
Rodeo attracts more than 4000
Rodeos usually draw big crowds as Katamatite discovered a couple of Saturday nights ago.
Although some Kyabram people will probably dispute the claim it was the biggest rodeo in the area in the past 20 years, it was big with 4170 spectators converging on the Muckatah Recreation Reserve to witness the inaugural event staged by the Katatmatite Lions Club.
Due to the large crowd numbers, there were a few hiccups with parking, but everything else went off swimmingly and organisers are now keen for it to become an annual fixture.
And don’t forget the famous Kyabram Rodeo on Friday, March 10 is fast approaching.
Summer hits hard

Hottest days were last Thursday with 37.9℃, Saturday with 38.1℃ (the hottest day this summer) and Sunday all exceeded 35℃.
And no rain has been recorded since Tuesday, January 3 with just 0.4mm and the last time with the last time double digit falls was recorded was 10.6mm on December 12 — and that’s over a month ago.

Mauboy was a sensation at the festival last year and organisers were over the moon when she agreed again to be at the festival to be held on Saturday, March 11.
They believe Mauboy’s appearance will prove a winner after doubts about the festival’s future.

Benalla SES members were among the first responders to the near tragedy and were credited with saving her life.

Rene claimed the Golden Camera award for his photo of the Benalla-Monash bridge in the night photography section.
