Girls in charge
Bit of history created in the Picola and District Football League clash between Deni Rovers and Mathoura’s Under 14 sides the weekend before last.
The captains of both sides were females.
Jerrah Caruso captained the Deni Rovers side and Savannah Emery the Mathoura team.
Both girls are the first female captains of their respective clubs, with Jerrah a co-captain.
While both are 15-year-olds they are eligible to play after the league failed to form a junior girls Under 18 competition this year and introduced overage exemptions for females to compete in the Under 14 competition up until they are 15.
Bus route’s future in doubt
‘Use it or lose it’ has been the ultimatum given by Dyson bus company to a trial weekly bus service from Conargo to Echuca.
The trial service was launched last June but only lasted a month due to COVID-19 border lockdowns.
The service resumed in January this year and although well supported at times, passenger numbers haven’t been consistent.
The trial period is due to end in June and unless the need for the service is vindicated it may not continue.

Southern 80 back to February
Echuca’s iconic Southern 80 water ski event will be staged in its former February timeslot next year.
This year’s event was postponed from February to the weekend before last due partly to the lack of emergency services staff availability due to a COVID-19 outbreak at the time.
Crowds at the recent event weren’t quite as large and cooler weather at this time of the year is believed to be factor in the drop-off and another reason to return to a February event.
Square dinkum
G’day.
An American tourist was visiting a small village in the wild frontier of the Canadian Rockies.
He approached a local and asked, ‘’What is the quickest way to get to Banff?’’
The local scratched his head for a moment and asked, ‘’Are you walking or are you driving?’’
The tourist replied, ‘’I’m driving.’’
‘’Well,’’ said the local.
‘‘That’s the quickest way.’’
Hooroo!
