This is another shot by Kyabram’s award-winning photographer Estelle Close taken at last year’s Kyabram rodeo.

Estelle said: “This was another song in my head that transcribed to a photo — Mammas don’t let your babies grow up to be cowboys.’’
Fair enough Estelle.
Great place to take a break
Those Kyabramites getting a bit long in the tooth who enjoy a stroll in the green belt in the south-west corner of Saunders St south are appreciating the installation of a second seat in the area by the Kyabram Urban Landcare group members Brian Freemantle and Neville Hunter.
They have also added a seat stopover in the Grey Box Reserve on the eastern side of the Parkland Golf Club.
One of those walkers who have an association with this paper described the new seats as a welcome addition that provides him with a chance now to have two spells on his daily walk, which he insists he needs to complete his walk without calling for an ambulance or resuscitator.
Barrat picks Delidio as manager
St Kilda Football Club draftee James Barrat’s Kyabram connection is getting stronger.
The nephew of former Kyabram footballer Ray Barrat and son of ex-Kyabramite Peter Barrat has appointed a former Kyabram champion player Brett Deledio as his manager.
Deledio, now in the media as well, was a number one AFL draft pick and played 242 games with Richmond where he won two best-and-fairest awards and 32 with Greater Western Sydney for a combined 274 games — the most AFL games ever by a Kyabram footballer.
James Barrat, who was picked up from Bendigo Pioneers at number 32 pick in last year’s AFL draft, played his junior football with the Leitchville Gunbower club in the Heathcote District Football League.
Snap up a historic estate
The historic Noorilim Estate has gone on the market near Wahring.
The 140-year-old Italianate mansion, which covers 11,000 square metres boasts 20 rooms, 10 of which are bedrooms, is set on 64ha on the Goulburn River 15km north of Nagambie and has been in the Menzies family for the past 26 years.
In the early 1900s it was a thoroughbred stud and boasted breeding three Melbourne Cup winners.
Now for the bottom line.
If you are interested in becoming the new owner of the Noorilim Estate you will need around $15 million to start talking turkey.
Football-loving priest to move
ONE FM’s football-loving priest Fr Jackson Saunders won’t be around next year.
Fr Saunders is heading home to Bendigo to take on a new role in a Catholic Church, but hopes to get back to Shepparton one day after spending the last two years in the city.
Fr Saunders loves his sport, particularly footy, and has been a valuable member of the ONE FM football commentary team during his time in Shepparton.
Sali re-elected
Shepparton’s charismatic mayor Shane Sali has been re-elected as Regional Cities Victoria chair.
Mayor of Greater Bendigo Andrea Metcalf will be his deputy.
On his election, Cr Sali said now was more important than ever to make sure regional voices were heard.
Square dinkum
G’day
‘‘Haven’t I seen your face before?’’ demanded the judge as he looked down on the defendant.
‘‘You have, your honour,’’ answered the man hopefully.
‘‘I gave your son violin lessons last winter.’’
‘‘Ah yes,’’ recalled the judge as he banged down his gavel ...
“Twenty years.’’
Hooroo!!!
