AFL Goulburn Murray has finalised its player points system for each of the four competitions in its jurisdiction after it was ticked off by the working party.
Goulburn Valley and Murray league clubs will be able to field sides with a total of up to 42 points each week next year.
Meanwhile, in the Kyabram District league, senior coaches will have 43 points to play with.
The Picola District league has been allocated the most points in the region, with 45.
Players are given a points total of between one and six depending on the level they have played at in previous seasons.
One point is given to someone who is classified as a ‘homegrown player’, which includes those who have played all their junior football at that club.
While someone who has played an AFL game in the past three seasons is worth six points — if they have not returned to their home club.
Kyabram Football Club president Peter Learmonth said it was a great outcome for the game.
“It will keep things pretty even in terms of recruiting,” he said.
“We're lucky as a club that we have a lot of local players who are still at our club, guys who are low on the points tally, which is a great thing for our club.”
Players who played in 2019 and were signed for 2020 will also lose an extra point for the new season.
Girgarre Football Club coach Billy Barnes said it was a good outcome for the league.
“Having our guys who have been around for a few years lose the extra point is a huge deal,” he said.
“It allows you to keep your core that you have, but also frees up a bit of room to go out and get players who you can use to boost areas you need to improve.”
