Following the completion of recent milestone renovations driven by owners Respect, management and staff are looking forward to taking this profound local legacy to the next level.
First established by the people of Tongala in 1925 as Tongala and District Bush Nursing Memorial Hospital, the service quickly built a reputation for providing much-needed, expert care to support local need.
So much so, that when the region’s requirement for residential aged care grew to a critical point, the decision was made to move into residential aged care – laying the early foundation for Tongala Memorial so many in the community know today.
But something that may be less well-known – for the moment at least – is the home’s recent journey of transformation.
Tongala Memorial residents have long enjoyed the many luxuries of modern aged care.
And with major refurbishments having been finalised earlier this year, they will be quick to tell you there has never been a better time for more locals to join the home’s warm and welcoming community atmosphere.
Stepping through Tongala Memorial’s doors, visitors will see the wings, as well as its shared, communal spaces that residents use daily, have received a welcome breath of new life.
Modern furnishings, flooring and furniture adorn every room, set against vibrant, fresh colours.
This includes bedrooms, which have been given a refreshing makeover to ensure residents wake up each day in a cosy and warm, yet functional and safe environment.
There have also been upgrades to the kitchen and dining spaces, revamped garden spaces surrounding the home and the creation of a new modern hairdressing salon.

The upgrade is just another way that Tongala Memorial and its staff are continuously striving to raise the bar in residential aged care.
Through strong clinical and social support, residents rest assured their unique clinical and care needs will be met.
This includes personal care assistants, housekeeping services, and a team of registered nurses on-call 24 hours, seven days a week.
Residents also have access to frequent visits from local specialist providers.

Social care co-ordinators draw on the community atmosphere to curate memorable outings and events as well as daily activities to inspire engagement and promote social wellbeing.
Tongala Memorial also houses a dedicated memory support unit, where holistic care centres on the whole person, not their limitations.
Through listening and learning about each resident, trained staff frame best-practice services and strategies to give people with memory loss the ability to live to their full potential.
