Having grown up in the Goulburn Valley, Ali completed his Bachelor of Oral Health Science in Bendigo before working in the Campaspe area.
He has recently returned from working in Charters Towers, Queensland.
Ali is dedicated to delivering exceptional oral health outcomes in a relaxed and caring environment.
He treats adults and children, but he has a special knack for working with kids, making their dental visits enjoyable and fear-free.
His approach involves working at each child’s pace and fostering a friendly rapport.
Ali joins Dr Russell Ivill, Dr Rylie Ivill, Shara Larsen and Carolynne Coutts-Smith in providing family-friendly, personalised dental care.
‘’At About Teeth, we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; instead, we take the time to know you personally, ensuring that our care is tailored to your specific goals and concerns,’’ Rylie said.
Ali’s arrival coincides with this year’s Dental Health Week.
This year, the focus is #Let’s talk about gums.
The campaign highlights the importance of proactive dental care, which ensures that you and your family maintain healthy teeth, gums, and a great smile.
By following some tips and maintaining good oral hygiene practices, you can keep your teeth healthy and prevent dental problems in the future.
‘’Taking care of your teeth isn’t just about a beautiful smile – it’s about preserving your overall health and wellbeing,’’ Ali said.
Tips for maintaining good oral health
Brush regularly: at least twice a day, preferably after meals. Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and toothpaste. Brushing helps remove plaque, which can lead to tooth decay and gum disease.
Floss daily: Flossing is as important as brushing because it helps remove food particles and plaque between teeth and along the gum line where your toothbrush can’t reach. You can also use interdental brushes.
Maintain a balanced diet: Limit sugary and acidic foods and drinks, as they can contribute to tooth decay. Eating a balanced diet helps support overall dental health.
Drink plenty of water. Water helps wash away food particles and keeps your mouth hydrated. It is also essential for saliva production, a natural defence against bacteria.
Replace your toothbrush: Replace your toothbrush every three months or sooner if the bristles become frayed. A worn-out toothbrush will not effectively clean your teeth.
Avoid smoking and vaping: Smoking and vaping stains teeth and significantly increases the risk of gum disease and oral cancer.
Protect your teeth: If you play contact sports, wear a mouth guard to protect your teeth from injury.
Regular dental visits: Of course, remember to schedule regular visits to your local dental clinic for a check-up and cleaning.
Along with Dental Health Week 2024 shining a light on gum health, the practice is eager to continue to build awareness about the Child Dental Benefits Scheme.
This government initiative supports children aged two to 17 whose families receive government benefits such as Family Tax Benefit A payment.
It covers basic dental services, including fillings, extractions, X-rays, exams and cleans, with benefits capped at $1095 over two consecutive years.
‘’We encourage parents to take full advantage of this scheme,’’ Rylie said.
‘’At About Teeth, we offer bulk-billing services for eligible children under the CDBS Medicare scheme.’’
Contact the About Teeth reception team to find out if your child qualifies and to schedule an appointment.
