Following the annual general meeting held on Monday, November 22, the committee members decided with “great regret and disappointment” they would be unable to operate the show in a safe and enjoyable way for the public.
Committee president and The Stanhope Family Hotel owner Mandi Goddard has chosen to continue the event in a smaller format.
“A few tears were shed at the AGM but just with everything going on, we’ve lost the momentum we had,” she said.
“I’ll be hosting some shows at the hotel, I basically want to break it down so that we can build it back up again.”
The outgoing Stanhope Show and Shine Committee fully endorses Ms Goddard and her team and supports her in the running of her future event.
Looking forward to the future of the event, Ms Goddard said the decision wasn’t entirely a surprise.
“I had a fair idea going into the meeting on Monday night what was going to happen, but it always has been my baby so it was a bit hard,” she said.
“But it’s okay, I’ll rejig it and get it up and out there again and continue.”
The streamlined event is looking to be split into a series of different days, with a ute show on the cards, followed by a car and bike edition at later dates, with limited entries of approximately 50 vehicles.
Ms Goddard said fundraising would still be a huge part of the event, as it had in the past, with the inclusion of local community groups.
“We just go from here really, try and build it up,” she said.
“It started at the pub in 2016, then gradually outgrew it so we went over the road instead.
“We would like to try and do that again, it also now gives us the opportunity to play around with some dates and new additions like having a band play.”
Over the past three years, more than $20,300 was raised for the community, all of which will be split equally between the 15 committees that volunteered at the 2020 event.
“We would like to thank everyone for their continued support over the past three years and (without whom we) would not have been able to run such successful events,” a statement from the committee read.
“We hope everyone also supports Mandi on her venture and wish her every success in the future.”
