When the Ky Free Press spoke to him, he was the resident act at the Daley Waters Pub.
“I am originally from South Australia, Port Pirie is my home town,” Mr Birrell said.
“I left there in my mid-20s and went to Queensland and started a band called Hot Diggity.’’
After playing with the band, touring up and down the East Coast for a couple of years, he did some touring with Troy Casser-Daley.
“Then a bit of work with Adam Harvey and with Keith Urban as well,’’ Mr Birrell said.
“And now I do solo work all over Australia, currently on the road full-time.’’
2023 was his first visit to the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival and luckily for us, he is returning for 2024.
“They have invited me back for another year,” he said.
“It was great, it goes all weekend.’’
A good crowd, good atmosphere of a big outdoor show, along with good weather last year all left an impression with Mr Birrell.
“And it is a great line-up of artists and a good band,’’ he said.
“It is just a good weekend all around.”
Mr Birrell is influenced by the likes of Alan Jackson, Randy Travis, and Dwight Yoakam.
He expects to play a mixture of original numbers and covers of country favourites.
“I play the old country stuff for them, then I crank up the 60s, 70s, 80s rock and roll at the end,” he said.
Lance Birrell is one of the many performers at the Kyabram RV Country Music Festival running over the weekend of November 9 and 10, 2024, at the Kyabram Showgrounds.
