Two years ago, Dean Ciavarella purchased the business from his parents, Lou and Di Ciavarella.
He has expanded the Kyabram store to now include mobility aids, scooters, lift chairs and lift and motion beds.
This was to help the older members of the community have freedom and live independently for as long as possible.
“It helps everyone get out and about and stay connected with the community,” Mr Ciavarella said.
“We help them live in their own home for longer, which is absolutely the name of the game.”
A range of Top Gun Mobility scooters with 12 months of free roadside assistance are available at Ciavarella Betta Home Living.
The first thing you must consider before buying a mobility scooter is what you will use it for.
“Do you want to go to the football with it? Or do you want to go on walking tracks, or do you have a farm and want to take it out into the paddock.,” Mr Ciavarella said.
“We have scooters that will do whatever you like, off-road, the golf course ... Some of them will travel over 50km before needing re-charging.
“You might not necessarily go that distance because it is a long way, but you might go and stay with your kids’ house for the night and may not need to pack the charger.’’
Another thing to consider is storage, with scooters having different storage options due to the size and weight.
The store stocks a new model out, the lightest on the market, a fold-up model, weighing 15kg but is weighted to take up to 120kg.
When purchasing a lift chair, Mr Ciavarella suggests people look for two things — comfort and strength.
“They have up to four motors, depending on your weight rating, and have head, shoulder and lumbar support,” he said.
“They recline and give you the added flexibility of lifting you out of the chair and giving you more stability to get up.
“We are selling a lot of lift chairs to younger seniors, who buy a new lounge suite and the matching lift chair to go with that, but they never use the lift part until they need it.”
Lift chairs are great rehabilitation tools as they can take the pressure off your body and get you standing again.
The store offers a range of functional motion and lift beds that won’t make your home feel like a hospital.
“We have motion beds that adjust your back and legs, lifting them, which can take the pressure completely off your hips,” Mr Ciavarella said.
Some lift beds have a zero-gravity function, which takes the pressure off your hips and gives you a feeling of weightlessness, providing added comfort.
The beds can go down to the ground to lift you up and down or you can adjust your head, which can help with snoring.
Ciavarella Betta Home Living’s range can be customised to look like a regular bed or even a drop-in module placed in your existing bed frame to keep your bedroom suite intact.
Ciavarella Betta Home Living’s staff will service all their mobility products, including scooters, lift beds and chairs and staff can also come to you for servicing, delivering and installing their range of items.
This means that the people of Kyabram no longer have to return to Echuca or Shepparton for servicing.
Ciavarella Betta Home Living, 242 Allan St, Kyabram, phone 5852 2640, is open from 9am to 5.30pm Monday through Friday and from 9am to noon Saturdays.
