The donation came from the proceeds of last year’s successful festival, which returned to the showgrounds in November after a three-year break.
“The 2023 festival was a very successful event, with around 180 RVs camping at the showgrounds,” festival committee president Allan Weeks said.
“However, we made a smaller profit overall as our expenses had gone up since pre-COVID festivals, including artists’ fees and showgrounds hire.”
Foodbarn co-ordinator Jenny Walkden said the donation would help provide much-needed assistance to local families struggling to keep food on their tables in the current tough economic climate.
“Many families are hurting at the moment, so if we can help out with your family food bill, please call in and see us,” she said.
“We have a range of pantry food items and fresh fruit and vegetables available.”
Operated as a community relief service through the Kyabram Community Church, Foodbarn welcomes people experiencing financial difficulties, as well as pensioners, seniors and healthcare card holders.
Food items are sourced mainly from Foodbank Victoria, plus other local outlets. It is a free service. Donations of surplus fresh produce are always welcome.
Foodbarn operates from a large shed directly behind the Kyabram Community Church on the corner of Crichton and McEwen Rds.
It is open each Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9am to noon.
Ms Walkden said donations to help cover Foodbarn’s running costs were always welcome.
