Campaspe Shire Mayor Rob Amos expressed enthusiasm and anticipation for the community to start enjoying the newly refurbished space.
“It’s great to see the new Rushworth service centre and library finished for the community to enjoy,’’ he said.
“As many of you may know, there were a few delays in the construction period. We appreciate your patience as contractors have worked to complete works quickly as possible.
“I hope this new space serves as a great community hub, where people can come to relax, collaborate and learn,” Cr Amos said.
Waranga Ward Cr Adrian Weston said it’s great to see the project finished, and it is another win for the ward.
“There are so many wonderful projects near completion and some exciting projects in development. All of these works help increase the liveability of the town,’’ he said.
The new service centre and library at 33 High St, Rushworth, reopened on March 7 and is open 8.30am to 4.30pm (closed from noon to 1pm) on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.
Firewood collection areas open in state forests
Victorians can collect free firewood for personal use from state forest collection areas until June 30.
Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action team leader values and assets, bushfire and forest services Amy Groch said people could collect up to two cubic metres per person per day during a firewood collection season with a maximum of 16 cubic metres per household per financial year.
Firewood collection is only allowed in designated firewood collection areas during a firewood season, and collection areas are restricted to residents of specific local shires. Maps and more information available at www.ffm.vic.gov.au/firewood
The Victorian Government provides targeted energy support and concessions for people on low incomes who buy firewood or need assistance with their energy costs.
It’s an offence to collect wood outside designated areas or to leave formed roads to collect or load.
Community members can help by reporting any suspected illegal firewood collection on 136 186.
